Used as a pigment stain. Oil Red O is lysochrome (fat soluble dye) used demonstrate fat or lipids in fresh tissue sections. The polyazo group of dyes include the Oil Red, Sudan Red and the Sudan Blacks - all these dyes are interchangeable (Solvent Red 27, Sudan Red 5B)
