Cytoseal mounting medium (DG)

CytoSeal is a type of mounting medium used in histology and pathology laboratories to preserve and protect tissue samples on microscope slides. CytoSeal is a clear, colourless liquid that contains a synthetic resin dissolved in xylene, which helps to seal and protect the tissue sample from drying out and becoming damaged during microscopic examination.CytoSeal is typically applied to the slide after staining and coverslipping the tissue sample. The mounting medium helps to prevent fading of the stain, protect the slide from damage, and enhance the clarity of the tissue sample under the microscope. CytoSeal is also useful for long-term storage of slides and can help to preserve the tissue samples for future analysis.Premium quality; made from the best modern acrylic resin available. It will not become brittle or split with age, nor will it discolour or yellow. CytoSeal dries quickly, allowing for inspection shortly after application.

It is suitable for use with oil immersion objectives as well as fluorescence approaches. During long-term storage, slides will not adhere together, and the medium will not "cold flow" to the edge of the slide. Toluene or xylene can be used to remove CytoSeal. To avoid slide fading, an antioxidant has been added to the formula.

CytoSeal comes in a controlled drop dispenser, with varying viscosities.

  • CytoSeal 60, which has a viscosity of 60cps, is intended primarily for use with cover glass.
  • CytoSeal 280, which has a viscosity of 280cps is intended for use where minimal spread of medium is required.
  • CytoSeal XYL inhibits the fading or yellowing of stained specimens. Xylene-based rapid drying allows microscopic examination of slides soon after application. - ** Please note from May 2024 : This item has a manufacturer back-order due to raw material shortage.   **Please enquire before ordering
